EASL Announces 12-Team Field, Groupings and Full 2026-27 Season Schedule

Asia’s premier club basketball league returns with 12 champion clubs from seven territories, featuring new challengers, established powerhouses and a new era of regional rivalries.

East Asia Super League (EASL) today officially announced the 12-team field, groupings, and full schedule for the 2026-27 season, setting the stage for its biggest and most competitive campaign yet.

Twelve clubs representing seven of Asia’s leading basketball markets will compete across three groups, with 36 group-stage games played across the region from October 2026 through February 2027, before the competition advances to the postseason in March.

The journey begins on October 3 at the brand-new SM Seaside Cebu Arena in Cebu, Philippines, where Macau Hou Chon will make its EASL debut against the Taipei Fubon Braves before reigning MPBL champions Abra Weavers make their historic first EASL appearance against Hong Kong Eastern.

The 2026-27 season will feature three groups:

Group A:

  • Alvark Tokyo (B.LEAGUE)
  • Goyang Sono Skygunners (KBL)
  • TSG GhostHawks (P. LEAGUE+)
  • South Gobi Broncos (MBA The League)

Group B:

  • Busan KCC Egis (KBL)
  • Macau Hou Chon (Macau SAR Champions)
  • Taipei Fubon Braves (P. LEAGUE+)
  • Nagasaki Velca (B.LEAGUE)

Group C:

  • Abra Weavers (MPBL)
  • Hong Kong Eastern (Hong Kong SAR Champions)
  • Ryukyu Golden Kings (B.LEAGUE)
  • Taoyuan Pauian Pilots (P. LEAGUE+)

The upcoming campaign will feature clubs from Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, the Philippines and Mongolia as the league continues to unite the champions and stories of Asian basketball.

Five clubs will make their EASL debuts, including Abra Weavers, the first team from the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) to compete in the competition. Macau Hou Chon, as well as Goyang Sono Skygunners, TSG GhostHawks and Nagasaki Velca, will also make their first appearance on Asia’s biggest club stage.

Meanwhile, EASL’s established contenders return with plenty to prove.

Japanese B.LEAGUE clubs have historically set the standard in EASL competition, but with another highly competitive field assembled, the question remains: can Japan’s powerhouse clubs continue their dominance, or will a new challenger rise to the occasion?

Defending their place among Asia’s elite will be teams such as Ryukyu Golden Kings, who return with a new-look roster and will look to reassert themselves against the region’s strongest clubs. While Alvark Tokyo enters the season with unfinished business after narrowly missing out on a podium finish in last season’s third-place game.

Out of Chinese Taipei, Taoyuan Pauian Pilots have quickly established themselves as one of EASL’s most consistent performers, reaching the Final Four in back-to-back seasons. They will look to continue building their legacy on the regional stage, led by team star Lu Chun-Hsiang, whose continued development has made him one of the most closely watched young players in Asia.

The new season will also feature several intriguing return storylines. Busan KCC Egis return to EASL after a one-season absence, bringing together the legendary Heo brothers as they look to challenge the best clubs from across Asia. Taipei Fubon Braves will welcome recent retiree Tsai Wen-Cheng as Executive Coach as the team enters a new era following the retirement of Chinese Taipei legend, Lin Chih-Chieh.

The region’s most unpredictable teams will also look to continue making their mark. Hong Kong Eastern have consistently exceeded expectations in EASL competition and will aim to surprise Asia once again. While South Gobi Broncos return for their second season after gaining valuable regional experience, facing the challenge of adapting following offseason roster changes.

With the full schedule now set, fans can see the journey ahead—from opening night in Cebu to major home-and-away matchups across seven markets and ultimately the race for the EASL championship. This is what regional club basketball should look like, and we can’t wait to get started.”

Full schedule of the 2026-27 season, starting on October 3, 2026

Following the Cebu Tip-Off, EASL action moves across the region beginning October 14, when Alvark Tokyo hosts South Gobi Broncos at Arena Tachikawa Tachihi and Nagasaki Velca begins its EASL campaign against Busan KCC Egis.

The schedule will feature a series of compelling home-and-away battles throughout the season. Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Ryukyu Golden Kings renew their rivalry on October 28 in Taoyuan before meeting again in Okinawa on January 20, while Hong Kong Eastern travels to Okinawa to face Ryukyu on November 4 before welcoming the Ryukyu Golden Kings for the return matchup on December 23.

Fans in Macau SAR will get their first opportunity to see Macau Hou Chon play EASL basketball at home on October 28, when the Macau champions host Nagasaki Velca at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion.

In Korea, Busan KCC Egis will welcome Macau Hou Chon on November 5 and Taipei Fubon Braves on November 11, while Goyang Sono Skygunners begin their home campaign against Mongolia’s South Gobi Broncos on November 18.

The Philippines will also remain part of the story beyond opening night. Abra Weavers return to SM Seaside Cebu Arena on January 30 to host the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots before facing Hong Kong Eastern on their home turf in Hong Kong SAR on February 4.

The group stage concludes on February 5, with South Gobi Broncos hosting TSG GhostHawks in Ulaanbaatar, before the competition moves into the postseason and the race begins to crown the 2026-27 EASL champion.
