TSG GhostHawks nab first EASL win at the hands of Alvark Tokyo
What Happened:
Maybe one day they’ll label this day as “Underdogs United” in EASL history. After all, just a few hours after Hong Kong Eastern toppled a B.LEAGUE titan in Ryukyu Golden Kings, the TSG GhostHawks did the same against Alvark Tokyo, as they emerged with a 90-85 win at the Fengshan Stadium in Kaohsiung City.
This battle was a far different one than the other match. The GhostHawks were in a dogfight against Alvark and played catch-up for the entire first half. But a 15-5 run to start the 3rd quarter would change the mood of the game, as TSG was briefly able to take the lead before Alvark wrestled it away from them once again. The visiting team would enter the fourth period still up, 68-59.
But in a stunning turn of events, it would be TSG that showed the determination to mount a comeback, as they uncorked another 14-5 run. A triple by Ku Mao Wei Chia tied the game up, setting the stage for the heroics of Jordan Caroline down the stretch. Shaking off the effects of a lower-leg injury in the period, he knocked down a booming triple inside of the final two minutes to swing the lead back to the GhostHawks, 83-86. Clutch free throws from Ondrej Balvin would be enough to preserve the come-from-behind win of the GhostHawks.
What It Means
TSG showed that a team’s fortunes won’t be dictated by their first game. They learned from their mistakes in their loss to the Goyang Sono Skygunners, and stayed cool under pressure despite trailing for the majority of the game. Thus, the team tagged as the underdogs by their own coach showed that their bite was bigger than their bark in this instance.
Player of the Game:
In between towels strewn up on him, reminiscent of the glory days of Oklahoma City Thunder post-game interviews, Jordan Caroline couldn’t hide the smile creeping on his face. After all, not only did he witness an exciting comeback victory, but he also played a key role in it.
Caroline would tally 25 points and 9 rebounds, highlighted by 3 of 7 three-point shots from the field. He saved the best for the final period, as his big shots were what allowed the GhostHawks to complete their comeback.
“We just believed in us,” Caroline said after the game. “That just goes to show our team chemistry, and the fact that we can fight through tough situations.”
“We don’t give up.”

Super Statistic: One
This was a special day for the GhostHawks. Not only did they get a win after a tough Alvark Tokyo squad, but they also earned their first-ever win in the EASL.
According to TSG GhostHawks Raoul Korner, what his squad accomplished together was the by-product of several days of showing up to work. “This is the endless mornings and evenings that you guys worked on in the summer,” Korner said to his team in the locker room after the win. “This is the endless hours you put in before and after breakfast.”
But for Korner, the challenge now is not to let TSG’s EASL run end at one. “But it doesn’t stop here, guys, it’s only getting started,” Korner said. “This should be something that shows you what’s possible.”
