THE RUNDOWN

Hong Kong Eastern and Taipei Fubon meet for the second and final time in their regular-season series on Sunday, December 28. It will be Eastern’s first home game of the 2025–26 EASL season at Southorn Stadium.

The teams last met on December 13, when Taipei Fubon came away with a 95-81 win. That night was defined by Fubon’s trio of Archie Goodwin, Troy Gillenwater, and Mouhamed Mbaye, who combined for 77 points. Goodwin and Gillenwater scored 26 apiece, while Mbaye added 25 to power the Braves past Eastern on the road.

This rematch offers a chance at a reset for Hong Kong Eastern. A win would give them their first EASL victory of the season in their home opener, while a loss would drop them to 0-3. For Taipei Fubon — after falling 88–79 to Seoul SK on Christmas Eve — a win would move the Braves to 3-1 and back on track near the top of Group A.

Taipei Fubon’s Archie Goodwin has been on a tear through his first three games, averaging over 30 points, while Eastern will lean heavily on forward Dominic Gilbert, who is averaging 23 points. The two went head-to-head in the first meeting, with Goodwin finishing with a game-high 26 and Gilbert countering with 23, setting the stage for another key duel in Hong Kong.

EASTERN

A brief look at recent EASL history reveals that Hong Kong Eastern has been here before. Last season, Eastern opened 0-2 before rattling off three straight wins and finishing one result short of reaching EASL Final Four 2025. This game has the feel of another turning point, with a home opener that could spark a similar run if they can take it.

Eastern’s offense will again lean on Dominic Gilbert, but they will also need steady contributions from Cameron Clark and Alexandre Gavrilovic. Clark showed what he can do in the first meeting with a 19-point first half before fading after the break. Gavrilovic provides a reliable interior presence and has been one of the league’s most consistent bigs, ranking third in blocks per game and fourth in rebounds per game.

A win in Eastern’s first home game of the campaign would move them to 1-2 and level them with the Utsunomiya Brex in the standings by record, though they would still trail on point differential. A loss would drop them to 0-3 and leave them with a major hole to climb out of for the rest of the regular season, which runs through mid-February 2026.

THE FUBON BRAVES

Taipei Fubon enters this matchup looking to reset after seeing its unbeaten run come to an end. The Braves were the last undefeated team in EASL, opening 2-0 and carrying that record from EASL Tip-Off on October 8 through late December before falling 88-79 to Seoul SK on Christmas Eve.

Much of that focus naturally centers on Archie Goodwin, who has been one of the most dangerous 1-on-1 scorers in Asia. Goodwin is averaging 31.7 points per game, the second-best mark in EASL, through three outings and remains the centerpiece of Fubon’s offense. Troy Gillenwater, Mouhamed Mbaye, and Aaron Geramipooor give the Braves size and scoring balance, with Geramipooor contributing 12 points in his first career start last time out.

Another name to watch is Chou Kuei-Yu, who delivered an efficient performance against Seoul SK with 14 points on over 60 percent shooting. If he can replicate that level of efficiency, he provides Fubon with another reliable scoring option alongside their main weapons.

Finishing games will be a point of emphasis, especially given how they handled the second half in the first meeting with Hong Kong Eastern on December 13. In that game, Fubon trailed 44-41 at halftime before outscoring Eastern by 13 points in the second half to pull away for the win.

If they can produce a similar closing stretch in Hong Kong, the Braves would move to 3–1 and strengthen their position in Group A with just two regular-season games remaining.

SPOTLIGHT STORYLINE

STAND WITH TAIPO

This matchup between Hong Kong Eastern and Taipei Fubon carries significance beyond the standings. All proceeds from the game will be donated to support relief and reconstruction efforts following the Tai Po fire in Hong Kong, with the league and club coming together to use the night as a platform to give back to the community.

Ahead of tip-off, a moment of silence will be held in remembrance of the victims. Both teams will also wear special warm-up T-shirts, alongside additional merchandise, as a visible show of support and solidarity from Hong Kong Eastern and EASL  for everyone affected by the tragedy.
