GAME RECAP | Clark, Gilbert Combine for 54 in Thrilling Hong Kong Overtime Win

HKE embark on record-setting 15–2 OT run to take down KBL giants Seoul SK

What Happened

On January 7 at Southorn Stadium, Hong Kong Eastern pulled off a 96–83 overtime win over the Seoul SK Knights, marking the first overtime game in the club’s EASL history. Dominic Gilbert and Cameron Clark carried the load for the home side, scoring 27 points apiece and combining for 54 in a statement result.

It was tight from start to finish, and SK looked like they were about to escape with it, leading 81–78 late. Then Clark delivered the moment of the night, drilling a three from the top of the key with 1.8 seconds left to tie it at 81–81 and force overtime. Seoul still got big production from Jameel Warnie and Darryl Monroe, who finished with 29 and 22 points respectively, with Arvin Tolentino adding 16, but the extra session belonged completely to Eastern.

In overtime, Hong Kong Eastern flipped the switch and never looked back, ripping off a 15–2 run to slam the door and turn a back-and-forth battle into a comfortable final margin.

What It Means

With the win, Hong Kong Eastern shook up Group A in a big way. Eastern moved from last place up to third, jumping over Utsunomiya and dropping the reigning B.LEAGUE champions to the bottom of the group.

For Seoul SK, it turns what could’ve been a clinching night into a missed chance. SK came in knowing a win would make them the first team this season to qualify for the EASL postseason, and it would’ve been their second trip in three seasons after reaching the playoffs in 2023-24. Instead, the loss drops them to 3-2. They’re still on top of Group A, but they’ll have to wait to officially lock up a spot.

And even with both teams at 2-2, Taipei Fubon sits above Hong Kong Eastern because of the head-to-head point differential. The Braves won the first meeting by 14 (December 13), while Eastern won the second by 10 (December 28), so Fubon holds the tiebreak.

Player Of The Game: Cameron Clark

Cameron Clark was everywhere against Seoul SK. Defensively, he drew the toughest assignment in the building, guarding Jameel Warney — Seoul SK’s best player and one of the hardest covers in EASL. Offensively, he delivered, finishing with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

And that’s even before the biggest moment of the night. With Eastern down three late, Clark buried the game-tying three at the top of the key with 1.8 seconds left to force overtime, setting the stage for Hong Kong’s eventual win.

This season, he’s played in three of Eastern’s four games and has scored 20-plus in every appearance.

Super Statistic: 15-2

Hong Kong Eastern’s 15-2 run in overtime is the largest scoring margin in an overtime period in EASL history. After the game was tied 81-81 at the end of regulation, Eastern completely took control in the extra session.

Eastern opened overtime on a 12-0 run, with buckets coming from Jenning Leung, Glen Yang, Alexandre Gavrilovic, and Cameron Clark. Seoul SK could not stop the run and did not get on the board until 57 seconds remaining, when Darryl Monroe finally broke the drought with a pair of free throws. By then, SK was still trailing 93–83 and the game was already slipping away.

Clark then put the finishing touch on it, knocking down a three from the right wing to stretch the lead to 96-83, which would stand as the final score. The closest overtime margin to Eastern’s 15-2 run came back on February 5, 2025, when the New Taipei Kings outscored the Meralco Bolts 15-5 in the second overtime of a 106-96 win.

Next Up

Hong Kong Eastern will be back in action on February 4, when they return home to host the Utsunomiya Brex — the reigning B.LEAGUE champions — at Southorn Stadium. Tip-off is set for 8:00 PM.

As for the Seoul SK Knights, they’ll play at home later this month. SK will host the Taipei Fubon Braves on January 28 at Jamsil Students' Gymnasium, with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 PM.
