GAME RECAP | Seoul SK Move Into 2nd in Group A, Take Down Utsunomiya 84-78

Reigning B.LEAGUE Champions Fall to 1-2 as SK Win Their 2nd Straight

What Happened

Seoul SK Knights controlled the game from start to finish, defeating the Utsunomiya Brex 84-78 at Jamsil Student Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Seoul jumped out early, led by as many as 24 points, and never trailed at any point in the game.

The Knights set the tone defensively and carried a 46-30 lead at halftime, holding Utsunomiya to just 30 points over the first two quarters. While the Brex made a push after the break and cut the margin down late, Seoul had built enough of a cushion to close the game out comfortably.

Seoul finished shooting 43.9 percent from the field and knocked down 17 free throws, while limiting Utsunomiya to 40% shooting. The Knights also controlled the game with composure, leading for nearly 39 minutes, and weathered Utsunomiya’s late surge without surrendering control.

Jameel Warney set the tone with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Darryl Monroe added 17 points and An Youngjun chipped in 16 as Seoul had multiple scorers carry the load. For Utsunomiya, Isaac Fotu led the way with 27 points, with D.J. Newbill adding 12 and Gavin Edwards contributing 5 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.

What It Means

With the win, Seoul SK now moves into sole possession of second place in Group A. The Knights sit behind the Taipei Fubon Braves, who remain the league’s only unbeaten team at 2-0.

Utsunomiya drops to third following the loss and is now 1-2 on the season, still sitting above Hong Kong Eastern, which is 0–2 and looking for its first win of the 2025–26 EASL campaign.

Both Seoul SK and Utsunomiya have now reached the midseason point of their Group A schedule, with three regular-season games remaining for each team.

Player of The Game: Jameel Warney

‍Jameel Warney finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in a complete performance that dictated the flow of the game on both ends.

Warney scored efficiently inside, lived at the free throw line, and consistently punished switches, forcing Utsunomiya to collapse defensively. His presence also stabilized Seoul whenever the Brex tried to build momentum, and his work on the glass helped limit second-chance opportunities.

Warney reached the 100 rebound club in EASL with that performance, making him the second KBL player to hit the mark. He also became the first KBL player and one of only three players in EASL history to reach the 200-point, 100-rebound club, joining the New Taipei Kings’ duo of Kenny Manigault and Sani Sakakini.

Super Statistic: Seoul 38:44, Utsunomiya 0:17

These numbers tells the story. Seoul had control basically from the opening minutes and only gave up the lead for 17 seconds all night. Utsunomiya made a couple of pushes, especially late, but it never felt like the Brex fully flipped the game. The Knights had already built the cushion, kept answering with timely stops and buckets, and made sure the momentum never truly swung out of their hands.

Next Up

Seoul SK will be back in action once more before the end of 2025, returning on Christmas Eve for a marquee matchup against the Taipei Fubon Braves at Taipei Fubon Basketball Gymnasium. With Taipei still unbeaten, a win would give the Knights a chance to jump into first place in Group A.

Utsunomiya, meanwhile, will have a longer break before returning to EASL play. The Brex are next scheduled to play on January 21, when they return home to Brex Arena Utsunomiya to face Hong Kong Eastern.
