EASL Head Coaches Jeon and Cho Named Interim Head Coaches for Korean National Team

The two coaches from Seoul SK and Changwon LG will serve as head coach and assistant coach for Korea at the next FIBA window.

Seoul SK Knights head coach Chun Heechul and Changwon LG head coach Cho Sanghyun will both coach Korea at the upcoming FIBA qualifying windows. Jeon will serve as head coach and Cho as his assistant for matches in late November and early December.

This season, the pair are also coaching in the East Asia Super League, with Chun's Seoul SK in Group A and Cho’s Changwon LG in Group C.

Earlier this year, the two met in the KBL Finals — a seven-game series that ended with Cho and LG claiming the franchise’s first-ever championship. Come November, the two will be on the same sideline.

Korea opens its FIBA window on Nov. 28 against China and hosts the return leg on Dec. 1. Japan and Chinese Taipei are the other teams in the group — each of the latter two regions with three EASL teams each in the 2025-26 season.

Widely recognized as one of the top coaches in the KBL, Chun led Seoul to league titles in 2018 and 2022 and guided the Knights to the EASL championship game in the 2023–24 season. Earlier this year he coached Seoul to a regular-season crown before the team fell to LG in the Finals. Cho’s championship with LG marked the pinnacle of a blossoming managerial career, and he now has a chance to create more history in the club’s first EASL season.

LG’s first EASL game comes on Oct. 30, when they host the New Taipei Kings. After that, the team has two more Group C matches before the FIBA window. Seoul SK begin their EASL campaign on Oct. 22 with a road trip to reigning B.LEAGUE champions Utsunomiya Brex and will host Hong Kong Eastern on Nov. 12 before the break.
