THE RUNDOWN

The Taipei Fubon Braves and Hong Kong Eastern play their second EASL game of the season on Saturday, December 13, with Eastern on a second straight road outing and the Braves at home for the second game in a row. TFB sits at the top of the Group A standings at 1–0 and is the last remaining undefeated team in EASL, while Hong Kong Eastern is at the bottom at 0–1.

It feels like a long time since the Braves last saw EASL action. They currently own the longest gap between games of any team, with their most recent outing coming at EASL Tip-Off 2025 on October 8 in Taipei. In the first of two games that night, Taipei Fubon upset reigning B.LEAGUE champions Utsunomiya Brex in a 109–107 overtime thriller, powered by import forward Archie Goodwin’s 43 points – the second-highest single-game scoring total in EASL history.

Hong Kong Eastern, meanwhile, returns to the floor for the first time since a 94–87 loss to the KBL’s Seoul SK Knights on November 12. HKE stayed close after the opening quarter but struggled in the second, going into halftime down 53–39 and never fully recovering over the final two periods.

THE FUBON BRAVES

The Taipei Fubon Braves are the last remaining undefeated team in EASL and will look to move to 2–0 in Group A, with one more regular season contest left on their 2025 schedule.

Since their surprising and entertaining win over Utsunomiya Brex at the beginning of October, however, the Braves have started slowly in their domestic campaign. The reigning P. LEAGUE+ runners-up have opened 1–3, with their lone win coming against expansion side Yankey ARK.

Coming off a 105–99 loss to the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots on Thursday night, Taipei Fubon will view this EASL matchup as an opportunity to reset. Pseudo point guard Archie Goodwin will be central to that effort, with the prolific isolation scorer averaging 21.3 points in domestic play and having produced the highest-scoring EASL debut ever with 43 points at Tip-Off 2025. Alongside Goodwin, the Braves will need strong performances from frontcourt duo Mouhamed Mbaye and Bennie Boatwright. Mbaye leads the team with six rebounds per game, while Boatwright recorded 21 points on 58.3 percent shooting in that Tip-Off victory. If Taipei replicates the level shown on October 8, they will give themselves a strong chance of improving to 2–0.

EASTERN

Hong Kong Eastern, now in its second consecutive EASL season, enters this contest against Taipei Fubon with a chance to level its record at 1–1. A win would also create a scenario in which all teams in the Group A standings sit at 1–1.

The major news ahead of this game is the return of Cameron Clark, a 6-foot-7 import forward who played for HKE last season and averaged 17.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His ability to score one-on-one and generate offense in broken plays will be crucial if Eastern is to find answers against a disciplined Braves defense.

Beyond Clark, three players stood out in Hong Kong’s season debut. Jenning Leung, who joined from Group B’s Macau Black Bears, erupted for 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from three-point range without attempting a single two-point field goal. Dominic Gilbert added a team-high 23 points, while new import forward Alexandre Gavrilovic posted 16 points, a game-high 13 rebounds and three blocks, giving Eastern a strong interior presence at both ends of the floor.

SPOTLIGHT STORYLINE

STAYING UNDEFEATED

The Taipei Fubon Braves are the lone undefeated team in EASL’s expanded 12-team field for 2025–26. It’s also the first time a club from Chinese Taipei has held the distinction of being the last remaining unbeaten side in league history.

Some may point to their lighter schedule so far, but their lone win came in one of the toughest environments possible – a home overtime victory over the Utsunomiya Brex. A win against Hong Kong Eastern on Saturday would keep them as the only undefeated team and also secure a franchise-best second EASL win in a single campaign, after managing just one victory across six games in their inaugural 2023–24 season.
