GAME RECAP | Taipei Fubon Trio Combine for 77 Points, Stay Perfect at 2–0

Braves Extend Lead at the Top of Group A as Hong Kong Eastern Remain at Bottom

What Happened 

The Taipei Fubon Braves extended their perfect start and remain the lone undefeated team in EASL at 2–0 after a 95–81 home win over Hong Kong Eastern on Saturday night.

The Braves were powered by the dynamic scoring trio of Archie Goodwin, Troy Gillenwater and Mouhamed Mbaye, who combined for 77 points. Goodwin and Gillenwater each finished with 26 points, while Mbaye added a season-high 25. Gillenwater led the group with nine rebounds, and all three players handed out two assists.

After Taipei Fubon trailed 28–21 at the end of the first quarter, the home side trimmed the deficit to 45–44 by halftime before taking control after the break. The Braves outscored Eastern 50–37 over the final 20 minutes to secure their second straight home win. The result also set a new franchise record for the Braves in single-season EASL victories, as they surpassed their debut 2023–24 campaign in which they went 1–5.

While there were no major single-category gaps on the box score, Fubon shot 52 percent from the field and held a 44–39 edge on the glass. Hong Kong Eastern finished with the advantage in assists at 16–13.

What It Means 

Taipei Fubon’s win keeps the team on top of the Group A table at 2–0,, while Hong Kong Eastern drops to 0–2 on the season. Both clubs still have four regular-season games remaining in their 2025–26 schedule.

With the year nearing its close, the postseason picture in Group A remains wide open, as no team has played more than two games. Even so, Fubon’s perfect start puts it in a strong early position, while Hong Kong Eastern will need to dig deep and overcome a second straight 0–2 EASL start to stay in contention.

Player of The Game: Troy Gillenwater 

In his EASL debut, Troy Gillenwater was prolific on both ends of the floor, finishing with a tied game-high 26 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. He produced this performance just two days after a 33-point outing in his last domestic contest in Chinese Taipei’s P. LEAGUE+.

Gillenwater did most of his damage in the paint on Saturday night, going 10-for-16 from inside the arc. The Taipei Fubon big man was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line and converted several hard-fought and-one opportunities by bullying his way into the post and powering through the Hong Kong defense. He also handled his defensive assignment well, holding Eastern big man Alexandre Gavrilovic to just seven points.

Postgame, when asked how far Taipei Fubon can go given their 2–0 start and status as the last remaining undefeated team, Gillenwater simply smiled and said, “I don’t know… anything’s possible.”

Super Statistic: 69 

Archie Goodwin’s tied game-high 26 points on the night lifted his season total to 69 points through just two games, following his 43-point outburst at EASL Tip-Off 2025 in Taipei on October 8. That mark is the highest two-game total in EASL history by a player representing a Chinese Taipei-based team. Including the three clubs from Chinese Taipei that have participated in EASL — the Taipei Fubon Braves, New Taipei Kings and Taoyuan Pauian Pilots — no player has scored more over their first two games.

Goodwin’s 69 points are not miles ahead of the field but do create clear separation from second and third place. Taoyuan’s Treveon Graham totaled 57 points in his first two EASL games during the 2024–25 season, while Michael Singletary had 55 over his opening two contests for the Taipei Fubon Braves in 2023–24, a team he officially rejoined on December 12.

Next Up 

After Saturday night’s win, Taipei Fubon gets a week of rest before a Christmas Eve matchup against the visiting KBL’s Seoul SK Knights at Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium, where they will aim to improve to 3–0.

For Hong Kong Eastern, it will be a two-week break before they see the Braves again, this time hosting the P. LEAGUE+ runners-up at Southorn Stadium in Hong Kong.
