Changwon LG Sakers sweep semifinals to clinch first-ever EASL berth for 2025-26.
The Changwon LG Sakers have clinched a spot in the 2025-26 EASL season, advancing to the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Finals after sweeping the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus 3-0 in the semifinals. It marks LG’s first-ever EASL qualification, and they are the first KBL team to secure a berth for next season.
Changwon earned a first-round bye after finishing the regular season as the No. 2 seed with a 34-20 record. In the semifinals, they faced one of the KBL’s top offensive teams in Mobis but dominated the best-of-five series to move on to the Finals — and EASL.
The Sakers are powered by import duo Assem Marei and Carl Tamayo, both named to the KBL Best Five this season. Marei posted averages of 16.1 points and 13.1 rebounds, while Tamayo added 15.1 points per game. Rising local talent Yu Ki Sang has also made an impact, contributing 11 points per game.
With their Finals ticket secured, LG now awaits the winner of the other semifinal series between the No. 1-seeded Seoul SK Knights and No. 4-seeded Suwon KT Sonicboom. The SK Knights currently lead that series 2-1 and aim to join the Sakers as the second KBL team qualified for EASL 2025-26.
The KBL Finals, a best-of-seven showdown, are set to tip off on May 5.
