Chun, Mayali, Ewing Sign For Macau In 2024-25 EASL Season

The Black Bears add three guards ahead of their second game against New Taipei

The Macau Black Bears have signed guards Chun Hon Ting, Scott Ewing and Jamal Mayali the team announced on Oct. 14. Mayali and Chun will play with Macau for the duration of the 2024-25 East Asia Super League season. ‍

Chun, a 6-foot-4 guard, becomes the first Malaysian international basketball player to play club basketball outside of his home country. He most recently played for Malaysia’s NX Matrix Deers and has represented the Malaysian national team in FIBA 3x3 competition

‍“(Chun) brings a lot of floor spacing and versatility on both offense and defense,” Black Bears’ general manager Kevin Connelly said. “He is a strong wing that can plug and play right away. He’s really excited to play for EASL and a bigger platform.”‍

Ewing, who inked an agreement with the Black Bears late last week, formerly played in the Philippine Basketball Association with the now-defunct Bay Area Dragons. The speedy floor general has spent time with the Macau Wolf Warriors.

Mayali joins Macau after playing in West Africa for the past few years and is the current captain of the Palestinian national team. He attended McGill University with now-teammate Jenning Leung. Most notably, Mayali was named to the RSEQ All-Rookie Team during his freshman year at McGill where he averaged 5.2 points on 38.9% shooting from the field and accumulated six starts. ‍

“Jamal is a great rotation combo guard that can shoot it and run our offense,” Connelly said. “He is an unselfish player that will be a seamless fit on our team.”

‍On Wednesday, Macau travels to face off against the New Taipei Kings in their second EASL game of the season after losing to the Meralco Bolts on Oct. 2. Tip-off at New Taipei Xinzhuang Gymnasium is slated for 7:10 p.m. local time.
