THE RUNDOWN

The Xac Broncos host Alvark Tokyo in their second meeting of the season on EASL’s final regular season gameday. At M Bank Arena, the situation is straightforward for the Broncos. A win over Tokyo secures qualification for the EASL Finals, while a loss would see the reigning MBA “The League” champions eliminated from postseason contention.

In the first meeting between the two sides, the Broncos earned an 84-69 victory at EASL Tip Off on October 8,. Ian Miller led the way with 22 points, while forward Azbayar Altangerel made an immediate impact in his EASL debut with four blocks. That result, however, came with Alvark severely shorthanded, as the starting frontcourt duo of Sebastian Saiz and Ryan Rossiter was unavailable. Since returning, the pair have helped lead Alvark to four straight wins. The B.LEAGUE powerhouse hasn’t lost since.

For Alvark Tokyo, one of just three teams to have already clinched a spot in the EASL Finals, a win would move them to 5-1 and likely secure the top seed in Group C.

THE BRONCOS

The Xac Broncos opened the season 3-0 and were on track to become just the third team all-time to start an EASL campaign 4-0, and the first non-B.LEAGUE side to do so. But back-to-back losses against the New Taipei Kings and the Changwon LG Sakers flipped the Group C picture, dropping the Broncos from first place at the start of December to third by the end of the month.

They also arrive at this matchup with a notable roster change. Import forward Efe Odigie has departed for Chinese Taipei, with the Broncos bringing in Jordy Tshimanga as his replacement. It is familiar territory for Tshimanga, who suited up for the Broncos this past summer, helping them win BCL Asia East and finish third at BCL Asia. He also spent the 2024-25 season in the P. LEAGUE+, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year.

For the Broncos, the path is simple against an Alvark side that has not lost in EASL play in four months. The last time Tokyo did fall, though, came against these same Mongolian contenders, in that season opener. Now, the rematch comes at M Bank Arena, in front of a home crowd. Game on.

ALVARK

Alvark Tokyo secured qualification to the EASL Finals on February 4 with a win over the New Taipei Kings, confirming a postseason berth in the club’s first season in the league. It also made Alvark the first B.LEAGUE team to reach the Finals field this season.

Since falling to the Broncos on October 8 in the season opener, Alvark has looked like a different team, rolling to four straight wins as its key pieces have continued to build form. In the most recent result, Ryan Rossiter delivered a 15-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist line to become just the fourth player in EASL history to record a triple-double. Marcus Foster has also surged, posting back-to-back EASL career highs of 27 and 29 points as he has found a rhythm within the offense.

Alvark’s lone defeat this season came against the Broncos, but this time Tokyo arrives close to full strength, with starting point guard Kai Toews sidelined by an ankle sprain. Even so, the group has shown it can handle the playmaking load through Taiki Osakabe and Foster, with Sota Okura providing additional support. With the roster in form and Group C positioning on the line, Tokyo enters the finale looking every bit like a team capable of closing the regular season at 5-1.

SPOTLIGHT STORYLINE

Broncos In or Alvark Confirms the Bye?

Here’s the qualification scenario for both teams:

What’s at stake for Alvark Tokyo?

For Alvark, a win would move the B.LEAGUE side to 5-1 in the group stage, making it the fourth B.LEAGUE team in the league’s first three seasons to finish 5-1 or better, joining Chiba, Hiroshima, and Ryukyu. With only one other team across the remaining groups still capable of matching that mark on the final gameday, 5-1 would place Alvark in a strong position to earn one of the two semifinal byes in this season’s expanded EASL Finals bracket.

An Alvark win would also eliminate the Broncos. It would drop Xac to 3–3, level on record with the New Taipei Kings at 3-3.

With the Broncos and Kings splitting their head-to-head series, qualification would come down to point differential in those meetings. On November 1, the Broncos beat the Kings 90-76 (+14). On December 6, the Kings responded with a 109-94 win (-15). That leaves Xac at -1 and New Taipei at +1, sending the Kings through as the group’s second qualifier and leaving the Broncos outside the Finals field.

What’s at stake for the Xac Broncos?

For the Broncos, a win would send them to 4-2 and drop Alvark to 4-2.

More importantly, it would complete a 2-0 season sweep over Tokyo, giving Xac the head-to-head advantage. That would allow the Broncos to jump from third in Group C to first, securing their place in the EASL Finals alongside No. 2-seeded Alvark Tokyo and flipping the group standings on the final day.
