GAME RECAP | Broncos Improves To 3-0, LG Falls To 0-2

Mongolian champions remain perfect, pick apart reigning KBL champions

What Happened

The Xac Broncos keep making history. On Wednesday night at M Bank Arena in Ulaanbaatar, the Broncos stayed undefeated, dismantling the KBL’s Changwon LG Sakers 105-77. The win keeps the Mongolian champions atop the Group C standings as they hit their own midseason point. LG, meanwhile, became one of two teams to start 0-2.

LG kept it close in the first, trailing 30-25 after one, but fell apart in the second and went into halftime down 53-42. The Sakers got a hot start from guard Yang Jun Seok, who followed a 16-point EASL debut by opening with back-to-back 3s, but they never really had a go-to guy. Michael Eric led LG with 16, while Yang and Carl Tamayo added 10 each.

Without star center Assem Marei, LG did its best to handle the Broncos’ frontcourt of Efe Odigie and Azbayar Altangerel but came up short. Odigie exploded for a game-high 32 points and nine rebounds, and Azbayar continued his strong EASL run with 14 points and 10 boards. Broncos guard Ian Miller added 29, bringing his total to 91 points through three games.

LG unraveled in the fourth, getting outscored 26-13. They were hammered on the glass and committed 17 turnovers, which turned into 10 Broncos steals.

What It Means

The Broncos continue their miraculous run and stay atop Group C at 3-0. With three games left, including two on the road, nothing seems likely to slow them down. In their debut season as Mongolia’s representatives, they look poised to punch a ticket to the postseason.

For LG, it’s a different story. At 0-2, the Sakers sit at the bottom of Group C after losses to the New Taipei Kings and the Broncos.

EASL Player Of The Game: Efe Odigie

Efe Odigie continued to excel in his EASL debut season, finishing with 32 points and nine rebounds. That comes just a few days after he grabbed a single-game season high of 21 rebounds in a 90–76 win over the New Taipei Kings.

Odigie was everywhere, especially on offense. He hit two early threes and forced Michael Eric to guard tight, which opened up drives to the rim. In the fourth quarter, with the game in hand, Odigie posted on the right block and drained a fadeaway three reminiscent of Dirk Nowitzki.

After tonight, Odigie’s season totals are eye-catching. He ranks third in total points with 76, first in total rebounds with 41, and tied for first in steals with five, all in three games.

Super Statistic: 18

The Xac Broncos dominated the glass 40–22, an 18-rebound edge that is the largest margin by a winning team in a single game this season. Most of the gap came on the offensive boards, where the Broncos grabbed 16 to LG’s five.

By clearing the defensive glass to limit second-chance looks and chasing down loose balls for extra possessions, the Broncos made quick work of the reigning KBL champions.

Next Up

The Broncos, one of only two teams to have already played three games, now get a month off before visiting the New Taipei Kings at Xinzhuang Gymnasium on December 6.

The LG Sakers have a two-week break before November 19, when they also face the New Taipei Kings at Xinzhuang Gymnasium.
