New Taipei Kings Qualify For 2025-26 EASL Season

New Taipei returns to EASL as back-to-back domestic champs with lofty goals for 2025–26.

The New Taipei Kings will compete in the 2025–26 East Asia Super League (EASL) season after winning their second straight domestic championship. Arguably the top team in Chinese Taipei, the Kings won the 2023–24 P. LEAGUE+ title and followed it up with another championship in the 2024–25 TPBL season.

“New Taipei is a proven winner and has reached the top time and time again in our league,” said EASL Chief Executive Officer Henry Kerins. “EASL is the champions league of Asian basketball, and with New Taipei, we’re adding another true champion. They’ve shown they’re one of the best teams in Asia, and we’re excited to see what they do this season.”

The 2025–26 season will feature three teams from Chinese Taipei, with reigning champions New Taipei joining the already-qualified Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Taipei Fubon Braves of the P. LEAGUE+.

“Given the recent collaboration between the P. LEAGUE+ and TPBL, we’re pleased to welcome the TPBL’s New Taipei Kings into our longstanding partnership with EASL and its upcoming season,” said P. LEAGUE+ Chief Executive Officer Blackie Chen.

New Taipei has been one of EASL’s most consistent teams, becoming the first club to reach back-to-back Final Fours.

“We are very excited to participate for a third consecutive season in the EASL,” said New Taipei Kings General Manager James Mao. “As the league continues to grow with more elite teams, we look forward to the challenge of competing at the highest level in Asian basketball.”

In 2023–24, the Kings finished second in Group B and advanced to the Final Four, where they lost to eventual champions Japan’s Chiba Jets. They then fell to South Korea’s Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the third-place game.

In 2024–25, New Taipei again placed second in Group B. They lost to eventual champions Hiroshima Dragonflies in the semifinals but defeated the Ryukyu Golden Kings in the Battle for Third, earning their first EASL podium finish. Their all-time EASL record stands at 9–7.

The Kings also earned individual recognition in 2024–25, with forward Sani Sakakini and guard Jeremy Lin named to the All-EASL Team, presented by Spalding. With this honor, Lin became the first player in league history to earn All-EASL recognition in back-to-back seasons.

The Kings are expected to bring back several core players, but the biggest change comes on the sidelines. Former head coach Ryan Marchand has departed for the Fukushima Firebonds of Japan’s B2 League. Taking over is John Patrick, one of the most accomplished coaches in Asian basketball. Patrick led Japan’s Chiba Jets to an undefeated run and the championship in the 2024 EASL season, becoming the first coach to achieve that feat.

Full roster details for the New Taipei Kings will be announced closer to the start of the season.
