EASL Unveils Official Groupings for Landmark 2026-27 Season

Asia’s premier club basketball league returns with 12 champion clubs from seven territories, featuring new challengers, established powerhouses and a new era of regional rivalries.

East Asia Super League (EASL) today unveiled the official groupings for the upcoming 2026-27 season, bringing together 12 champion clubs from seven of Asia’s leading basketball markets to compete for the title in Asia’s premier club basketball champion.

The season tips off on October 3rd with a blockbuster double-header at the brand-new SM Seaside Cebu Arena in Cebu, Philippines, as the region’s top clubs begin their pursuit of EASL glory.

The 2026-27 season will feature three groups:

Group A:

·      Alvark Tokyo (B.LEAGUE)

·      Goyang Sono Sygunners (KBL)

·      TSG GhostHawks (P.LEAGUE+)

·      Xac Broncos (MBA)

Group B:

·      Busan KCC Egis (KBL)

·      Macau Hou Chon (MacauSAR Champions)

·      Taipei Fubon Braves (P. LEAGUE+)

·      Nagasaki Velca (B.LEAGUE)

Group C:

·      Abra Weavers (MPBL)

·      Hong Kong Eastern (Hong Kong SAR Champions)

·      Ryukyu Golden Kings (B.LEAGUE)

·      Taoyuan Pauian Pilots (P. LEAGUE+)

The upcoming campaign will feature clubs from Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, the Philippines and Mongolia as the league continues to unite the champions and stories of Asian basketball.

The 2026-27 season will welcome five clubs making their EASL debuts, including Abra Weavers, the first team from the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) to compete in the competition. Macau Hou Chon, as well as Goyang Sono Skygunners, TSG GhostHawks and Nagasaki Velca, will also make their first appearance on Asia’s biggest club stage.

Meanwhile, EASL’s established contenders return with plenty to prove.

Japanese B.LEAGUE clubs have historically set the standard in EASL competition, but with another highly competitive field assembled, the question remains: can Japan’s powerhouse clubs continue their dominance, or will a new challenger rise to the occasion?

Defending their place among Asia’s elite will be teams such as Ryukyu Golden Kings, who return with a new-look roster and will look to reassert themselves against the region’s strongest clubs. While Alvark Tokyo enters the season with unfinished business after narrowly missing out on a podium finish in last season’s third-place game.

Out of Chinese Taipei, Taoyuan Pauian Pilots have quickly established themselves as one of EASL’s most consistent performers, reaching the Final Four in back-to-back seasons. They will look to continue building their legacy on the regional stage, led by team star Lu Chun-Hsiang, whose continued development has made him one of the most closely watched young players in Asia.

The new season will also feature several intriguing return storylines. Busan KCC Egis return to EASL after a one-season absence, bringing together the legendary Heo brothers as they look to challenge the best clubs from across Asia. Taipei Fubon Braves will welcome back head coach Roger Hsu for international stints while entering a new era following the retirement of Chinese Taipei legend, Lin Chih-Chieh.

The region’s most unpredictable teams will also look to continue making their mark. Hong Kong Eastern have consistently exceeded expectations in EASL competition and will aim to surprise Asia once again. While Xac Broncos return for their second season after gaining valuable regional experience, facing the challenge of adapting following offseason roster changes.

"The strength of this year's field reflects exactly what EASL was created to achieve," said Henry Kerins, Chief Executive Officer of EASL. "Every club has earned its place by proving themselves in Asia’s top domestic leagues. This season combines established champions, ambitious newcomers and some of the most exciting players in Asian basketball. We know fans will see the highest level of competition and the most compelling stories EASL has delivered to date."

The action begins on October 3rd at SM Seaside Cebu Arena, where Macau Hou Chon will make its EASL debut against the Taipei Fubon Braves, before Abra Weavers face Hong Kong Eastern in the opening-night double-header.
