Utsunomiya returns to EASL for the first time since the 2019 Terrific 12.
The Utsunomiya Brex are headed back to the East Asia Super League after defeating the Chiba Jets to reach the B.LEAGUE Finals. This marks their first EASL appearance since Champions Week in 2023. They also competed in the Terrific 12 in 2019, before the league adopted its current home-and-away format. It will be Utsunomiya’s first trip back to the B.LEAGUE Finals since the 2021–22 season, when they captured the championship.
Facing a star-studded Chiba squad, Utsunomiya battled through a tough three-game series — winning Game 1, 84–67, dropping Game 2, 74–55, and clinching the series with a Game 3 win, 82–71. The Brex had previously swept SeaHorses Mikawa in the first round, winning by an average margin of 13 points.
Utsunomiya entered the postseason as the B.LEAGUE’s top seed, finishing the regular season with a league-best 48–12 record. They’re led by import forward DJ Newbill, who averages a team-high 17.1 points and 6.1 assists. The Brex also finished among the league’s top three in points per game, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage.
The B.LEAGUE Finals will tip off on May 24 at Yokohama Arena.
